Ormiston Hospital is expanding it’s capabilities for gynaecology with access to an increased number of expert surgeons. This year we welcome Dr Lulu van Eeden, new gynaecologist who speaks mandarin (普通话).
Dr Lulu van Eeden is a NZ trained doctor who received her medical degree at Otago University in 2010. Her interest in gynaecology was developed early and she was the recipient of the Sir Bernard Dawson award for being the top medical graduate in obstetrics and gynaecology in the Dunedin Clinical School of Medicine, as well as the Batchelor Memorial Medal and Prize for being the top graduate in obstetrics and gynaecology at Otago University in 2010.
After graduation, Lulu underwent specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology, and trained at Waikato, Hawkes Bay, North Shore and Auckland City Hospitals. At the end of her training, Lulu underwent a two year fellowship in gynaecology oncology at C
ounties Manukau DHB (CMDHB). At the end of her fellowship, she was offered a consultant position at CMDHB, where she is now based.
Lulu is part of the faster cancer treatment team at CMDHB and her areas of interest are general gynaecology, colposcopy and gynaecology cancers. Lulu is also actively involved in the teaching of medical students and gynaecology specialty trainees at CMDHB.
Lulu spent three years conducting medical research on the effect of female hormones with Dr Anica Klockars (PhD) at the science department of Waikato University, and travelled to the RCOG (Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) World Congress in 2018 to present her research findings.
Another exceptional linguist to add to our team, Lulu speaks fluent Mandarin, and is able to consult in Mandarin if required.
Lulu married a South African in 2018, taking on the surname ‘van Eeden’. When not working, Lulu enjoys hiking the great trails of NZ with her husband.
